Programme Outline
This session will focus on palliative and end-of-life care for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer, including concurrent oncology–palliative care models and case-based learning. Participants will be able to recognise the distinct epidemiology, comorbidity patterns, and biopsychosocial needs of AYAs with advanced cancer and how treatment intolerance, rather than disease progression, can drive transitions to best supportive care.
The session will also examine developmental, relational, and caregiving issues specific to AYA end-of-life care, alongside integrated AYA palliative care models and referral pathways in Singapore, including the EMPOWER programme and home hospice partnership.
By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to identify AYA patients who would benefit from earlier palliative care integration, initiate developmentally appropriate goals-of-care conversations, and partner with dedicated AYA oncology and home hospice services in Singapore.
