Programme Outline
Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) have been used in medical education for decades to strengthen competency-based training with proven results. EPA framework has since been adopted by other healthcare disciplines with demonstrated effectiveness in clarifying expectations, supporting workplace-based assessment, and guiding professional development. However, the concept remains relatively new within nursing, particularly in hospice care context.
Over the past two years, Assisi Hospice has developed and implemented a
comprehensive EPA training framework for palliative care nurses. This
session will focus on the assessment of the training programme and our preliminary findings, highlighting the importance of professional identity development, relational competence, consistent supervision, and collective support in preparing nurses for independent home hospice practice.
